Petite Treasures – May 2026.

1865, ROPiT 2 pi. blue & rose without rose underlying below "R.O.P.iT.", fresh colour and large margins all round showing part of the cutting lines on three sides, fold in the upper part, tied by framed "P.P." in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 148) and two strikes of "COMPAGNIE RUSSE DE NAVIGATION SMYRNE" c.d.s. in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 150) to outer letter sheet to Mersina. The rare datestamp of Smyrna is described by Tchilinghirian to be used in blue and was thought to be used only on incoming mail to Smyrna which is here proved not to be the case. In spite of its faults a rare and appealing cover.

1884, "G.O. JOLY VICTORIA & CO AIVALI" ship postmark in blue on 20 Para red on rose tied to folded envelope to Chios, fine, signed Nakri

1848, Turkish Steamship Company Entire letter written in Bursa / Brousse shipped from Mudania to Constantinople struck with oval negative seal handstamp with central P.P. (Posta Pagata) in black. The first handstamp introduced by any Turkish Steamship company. Cover with filing folds and tiny toned, otherwise fine. An exceptional strike of a very scarce marking

1860 ca., "AGENZIA PROSCAFI OTTOMAN DELLA ZECCA / BRUSSA" octagonal and  “AGENZIA DEI PROSCAFI OTTOMANI DELLA ZECCA / MUDANIA” postmarks on envelope cut outs, very fine pair. Certificate du Vachat (2010)

1861, Constantinople to Brousse folded envelope with content, bearing superb oval straight line ‘Franco’ in blue with manuscript “PP” in red alongside, usual file fold, otherwise fine & scarce

1871, "ADMINISTRATION SANITAIRE DE L´EMPIRE OTTOMAN" black bilingual cancellation on ship's clearing certificate “SERVICE SANITAIRE” from Constantinople. “Droit d'interrogatoire paye Piastres (ms.20)” twoliner alongside. Signed Le Directeur du Parloir, few file folds, very attractive and scarce Turkey ship document “freed from Quarantine”. Cancellation unrecorded in PROFI archive

1865, QV 3 d. rose “BI”, tied to entire letter by “3L GLASGOW JA/18 65 / 159” duplex, on reverse London DX JA/19 65 transit cds. in red and Amsterdam 20/1/65 arrival mark in red. On front  ´Engeland/Franco´ in black, tiny file fold, otherwise fine and fresh.

1870, Destination URUGUAY: 1 sh. green tied by LONDON EC X NO/21/70 -´97´ duplex to entire to Montevideo, red circle “PP” alongside, endorsed on top left ´via Bordeaux´, good perforation and fresh colour, tiny crease, otherwise fine and a scarce destination to Uruguay.

1871, GIRESUN : Folded envelope from Kerassunde to Constantinopoli shipped unstamped with ms. “4” and on reverse british post office constantinople fe/5 1871 a cds., usual file fold, fine and very scarce black sea mail.

1878, Incoming Mail: Cover to Charlotte Town, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, Nova Scotia, franked with GB 1873-80 2½ d. rosy mauve (Plate 12), wmk Orb, Perfins "M&N/M" (Meyerhof & Nathorff) clear duplex “MANCHESTER NO/26 1878 - 498” cancellation, ms. "via Dunnstown" alongside, part of flap missing and usual file folds, poor black "CHARLOTTE TOWN DE/10 78" arrival dater on reverse. The cover is addressed to Daniel Davies, who was president of the P.E.I. Steam Navigation Co. and director of the Bank of Prince Edward Island. An attractive maritime history cover and a scarce destination

1895 Postal stationery envelope Turtle 15 c. blue registered with additional franking of 4 pairs of the 2 c. die II at front and back cancelled SEYCHELLES 16.8.95 to Germany, at bottom left paquebot transit mkg. of the french AUSTRALIE 17/8/95 and at back arrival marking Ulm, one adhesive at back with tiny tear, otherwise very fine and fresh maritime cover.
 

1902/38, Maritime Mail 11 covers & stationery postcards, including ship cards (S.S.Persic, R.M.S. Carisbrook Castle on reverse of stationery card COGH), oneliner ‘Per Dunottar Castle’ on stationery envelope 1900, four cards cancelled OCEAN POST OFFICE, Paquebot, The Union Castle Mail Steamship Natal Agency 2.JUN.1916, some different, mainly fine.

1902/12, OCEAN POST: Ten postcards, three ship cards (S.S.Kinfauns Castle and Steamer Briton) and seven Portugal Madeira Funchal cards, including basket sledge ride from Monte to Funchal, all bearing stamps from Transvaal or COGH and cancelled OCEAN POST OFFICE, some different, mainly fine.

1880, Rivadavia bearing 16 c. rouletted tied to folded letter by Buenos Aires cds. to Genova with arrival mark on reverse, ship endorsement “Vapor Italiano Sud America”, file fold and tiny flaw, otherwise fine

1851, Lettersheet from Buenos Aires dated 30.Juil bearing boxed red straight line "Pays d"outre mer" and tax mark “10”, via Anvers and Belg. Valenciennes to Marseille with arrival mark of Oct.8 on reverse, tiny file fold otherwise fine.

1918, Bolivar 1 c. green and pair 2 c. carmine rose on commercial cover from Cartagena tied by "N.Y.P.O. PENN. MAY/17/1918 PAQUEBOT", large oval "US CUSTOMS LICENSED PORT OF NEW YORK ex by" (signed), "Remington Typewriter" imprint in red, with large censor label to Manchester, an unusual and attractive cover, fine.

1893, Five stationery envelopes, 5 c. black on blue and 10 C black on yellow, four steam ship postal stationery envelopes "Servicio Postal Fluvial" and one envelope "Servicio Postal Ferreo" 5 c. black on rose, all unused, fine.

1895/99, Three postal stationery cards 2 c. black on buff/cream, first cancelled "PORT OF SPAIN TRINIDAD MR/5/95" cds. written at "Ellida Savanilla Harbour", to "KRISTIANIA 24/3/1895" with arrival mark, vertical crease, fine and scarce mail to Norway, other two cards used in Panama to Swiss and USA, fine trio.

1902, 2 c. black on buff postal stationery card used uprated, two 2 c. orange (shades) tied by large violet "REPUBLIKA DE COLOMBIA DEPARTAMENTO BOLIVA BARRANQUILLA", typewriter "Via NEW YORK Saint Nazaire" to Germany, full message, corner crease, otherwise fine and unusual (plus same card with french ship cachet 1894).

1895/99, Three postal stationery cards 2 c. black on buff/cream, two answering cards, one used uprated in 1948 written in Cucuta with message, cancelled "BARRANQUILLA 9/9/1948" cds. to Germany, unusual and finr trio.

1909, Stampless cover from Alexandrie / Egypt with maritime content, to Chio Greece with red oval "LA PHOCEENNE - SOCIETE ANONYME D`€ARMEMENTS ET DE NAVIGATION A VAPEUR - AGENCE D´ALEXANDRIE", left top corner repaired, very scarce early ship document of Levant, in PROFI three covers recorded, fine and attractive.
