All volumes with ex iibris of the author, each hardbound with gold title imprint on spine. Excellent condition. Birch's works are the most comprehensive bibliography of philatelic literature ever compiled. He delivers one copy of each work to a special philatelic library, and otherwise maintains and expands the collection digitally. Only a handful of copies of each edition exist. Congrès International des Timbrophiles, Paris 1878. This book was published in 1880 in Paris, two years after the first international philatelic congress in the world. 225 copies were printed in total, but only 25 hand-numbered copies “sur papier chamois”. This is No. 1 of this special de-luxe edition on chamois paper. 404 + 12 pages, privately balacron leather hard bound with gold title imprint on front, excellent condition. Crawford, Earl of: Bibliotheca Lindesiana, Vol. VII: A bibliography of the Writings General, Special and Periodical forming the Literature of PHILATELY. Divided in Two Parts: (1) Authors and Titles, (2) Periodicals (Aberdeen University Press 1911), 924 columns, hardcover with gold title imprint on front and spine. The binding on the spine is partially open, but all in all this large book is in a good condition. A perfectly made slipcase preserved the rare book. – 

For clarification: Two editions of this well known “Crawford Catalogue” are known. The principal edition was this Volume VII of the catalogue of Bibliotheca Lindesiana. This Bibliotheca Lindesiana was a collection of Printed Books and Manuscripts on a variety of subjects and in various languages, collected by the Lindsay family over many years. This edition is much rarer than the others we know. Estimate: 1,000 Euro

Crawford, Earl of: Catalogue of the Crawford Library of Philatelic Literature at the British Library (revised edition 1991 by D. R. Beech for the British Library). This reprint includes the first edition which was published under the title “Bibliotheca Lindesiana Vol. VII …” in Aberdeen. (462) pages /= 962 numbered half-page columns +VI + 136 + 8 pages, hardcover, gold title imprint on front and spine,, limited edition of 500 copies, good condition. This book is more than a normal reprint because it includes the supplement and gives the British Library shelf numbers for each title. Crawford, Earl of / Bacon, Edward Denny: Catalogue of the Philatelic Library of the Earl of Crawford (1911). This is the second edition of 300 copies (the Phil. Literature Review mentioned that only 100 copies had been printed (see PLR, Vol. 13, No. 42/1964, page 48), published by the Philatelic Literature Society in London as a reprint. Original soft binding (this with minor edge faults).
