5 c. red-brown on deeply blued paper, block of 4, nice deep colour, the lower left stamp cut into at left, otherwise clear to mostly large margins, used with 6-bar target. Top left stamp faint tear and some very faint creasing, otherwise very fine. Very rare and attractive; just 2 further blocks of 4 have been recorded of this stamp (both also with faults). (Scott 1)

5 c. red-brown on blued paper, very slightly touched in one spot at left, otherwise clear to mostly large margins, tied by 6-bar target to entire letter, without further dispatch mark, from Santiago to San Fernando, dated inside "Julio 4 de 1853". The first issue of Chile was issued on July 1 1853, a Friday. This is the earliest recorded use of a Colon stamp on letter and virtually the 'First day cover' of Chilean philately. 5 c. red-brown on blued paper, vertical strip of four, the upper two stamps partly touched, the two lower stamps with clear margins, tied by target to lettersheet with part of contents, with red "VALPARAISO 1 MARZO 54", partly tying the right stamp, to Santiago. The very fine and rare letter. (Scott1)

5 c. red-brown on blued paper, vertical pair, together with 10 c. deep bright blue on yellowish paper, all with ample to mostly large margins, the pair with part of adjoining stamp at base, tied by bright red target cancels, crosswise applied on the pair, with adjacent red straight-line "COPIAPO" to lettersheet to Cordoba, Argentina, . The paper of the entire partly slightly weak in the folds, otherwise very fine and fresh. A beautiful and very rare letter. One of only two recorded covers with the complete first issue and one of very few recorded covers to Argentina with the First London Printing. Certificate Holcombe (1985). (Scott1+2)

10 c. deep bright blue on yellowish paper, two single copies, one with four large margins, the other with three large margins and just touched at right, tied by red target to entire letter with adjacent red "BALLENAR", two Valparaiso, carried on PSNC Steamer, endorsed 'per N. Granada' at lower left. A remarkable and very rare usage. Certificate BPA (1992). (Scott 2)

10 c. deep bright blue on yellowish paper, four single examples with generally large margins (two spots tiny touched), cancelled by target, on 2nd rate letter sheet with part of content, with adjacent red "SANTIAGO 6 ABRIL 54" to Valparaiso. Very fine and attractive. The largest recorded franking of the 1853 10 centavos on letter. Signed A. Diena.(Scott 2)

Charged '21' décimes handstruck in black; tariff of  August 1849 for a single letter. Fine and rare usage of this early issue on an entire to Europe. 5 c. pale reddish brown, block of four, fresh colour and ample to large margins, with part of neighbour stamps at right, used with straight-line "FRANCA" on letter sheet, dated "Chillan, Abril 14 1857", to Valparaiso. The lower pair affected by horizontal filing crease, otherwise very fine and fresh. The only recorded block of four of this shade on entire. Certificates RPSL (1979) and BPA (1992) (Scott 3)

5 c. hazelnut-brown, marginal block of four, partly touched at left otherwise with exceptional margins all round and marginal inscription "..tar del cimento" at base, tied to entire letter from Copiapo 1856 to Valparaiso, endorsed 'por Vapor'. A spectacular block and the only recorded such franking of this shade on entire. Certificate Philatelic Foundation (1997). (Scott 3a)

1854, Desmadryl 5 c. red brown, horizontal strip of 6, slightly touched in places it at top, otherwise full to large margins, used on lettersheet with adjacent red "SANTIAGO  AGTO 54" to Valparaiso. Filing crease (well off the franking) little toned, otherwise very fine and fresh. A very attractive and rare letter. Certificate RPSL (1978) (Scott 3)
