1848, letter sheet from New York (docketed inside) with 'British open mail'  to Basle, Switzerland, endorsed "P.Steamer Niagara" (Cunard Line) and "Via Paris" during the Retaliatory-rate period, thus to be prepaid (not noted) with 29 c.; in Switzerland charged with "54" kreuzer, including 10 d. british transit and 17 dec. double rate french postage.

1855, 3c brownish carmine with full Chicago perforation 12-1/2, nice color, cancelled by Chicago cds. Tiny corner crease at upper right, otherwise very fine. A very nice example of this rare stamp. Certificate PF (2022). (Scott 11 var.)

1854 (Oct. 3), Washington 3c. red imperforated with manuscript mark on folded lettersheet from Spencer, Tennesse, endorsed "via New York & Liverpool" to Leipzig. The letter weighed more than ½oz and was rated as double, with black integral cds. "N. YORK AM. Pkt 46 OCT 14", carried by the "Atlantic" from New York to Liverpool, charged with "26" sgr. to the recipient, interesting cover with attempted part-payment
 

1843, "ST.P.A. BREMEN 3 1" auf komplettem Faltbrief (Preisliste), über Cuxhaven, London und Liverpool, mit der 'Arcadia' der Cunard Linie über Boston nach New York. Bis zum Landungshafen vorausbezahlt, in England "1/6" Weiterfranko vermerkt und in den USA zusätzlich mit "39" Cent US-ship-letter-fee und Inlandsporto belastet. 3 Faltungen, sonst gute Erhaltung. Frühester registrierter Bremen-Beleg dieser Art.

1845, "See-Brief", großer Ra., sauber auf komplettem Faltbrief von Baltimore nach Linen in Tecklenburg, mit sauber nebengesetztem Ra.2 "BREMEN 5-8", taxiert mit insgesamt "7 ¼" Silbergroschen. Frühester registrierte Abschlag des See-Brief-Stempels.

1851, "BREMEN F.TH.u.TAX.O.P.A. 2.März 51" auf komplettem Faltbrief über alle Havel zum nur kurzzeitig möglichen 24 C. Seetarif mit vorderseitigem"NEW-YORK SHIP 29 cts.". Es sind nur wenige Briefe mit diesem Tarif bekannt.

1861, Faltbrief ab "NORDHAUSEN 20 7 * 5-6" nach Goderich, Ontario, Kanada, mit "8 3/4" Sgr. voll bezahlt über Bremen mit rotem Ra1 "PAID." sowie New York mit EKr. "N. YORK BREMEN PKT AUG 20 PAID", rückseitig mit Ankunftsstempel "GODERICH AUG 22 1861",etwas umgefaltet und gestützt, ein attraktiver Brief mit seltener Destination

1847, CAMBRIA: Envelope franked with 1847 Washington 10c. tied by blue grid with matching cds. "SYRACUSE AUG 29 N.Y." alongside to London, ocean transit unpaid, bagged directly to London, charged with "1/-" upon arrival, slightly toned, horizontal crease through envelope stabilized, otherwise fine, certificate PF (1985)

1848, CAMBRIA: Folded letter Franklin 5C., fresh color and good margins all around, used with pen-strike and two strikes of red "PAID" and adjacent cds. "THEO-SEMINARY MAY 8, addressed to Norfolk, ocean transit unpaid, charged "1/-" upon arrival, adhesive two small tears, otherwise fine and attractive, signed Toaspern and certificate PF (1976)

1855, ATLANTIC: Franklin 1c. blue and horizontal pair Washington 10c. green tied by grid to folded letter with adjacent cds. "NEW ORLEANS OCT 21" via "NEW YORK OCT 31" to Marseille, upon arrival first charged with "8" decimes, this corrected to "16" for a double letter, 1c. touched, otherwise fine

1856, FULTON: Maiden Voyage, 1851 Franklin 1c. blue, horizontal pair, tied by cds. "NEW ORLEANS FEB 3" to printed matter to Augsburg, Bavaria. Upon arrival charged with "7" kreuzer, stamps cut into, slightly toned, otherwise fine and scarce entire

1860, ILLINOIS: 1857 Washington 3c. red and 12c. black as horizontal pair tied by cds. "AUGUSTA JUL 7" to envelope via Bremen or Hamburg to Geneva, Switzerland.  With red integral cds. "NEW YORK PAID AUG 11 9", put on "Illinois" as "Saxonia", the HAPAG liner would not sail for another four days, the rate was 21 cents, the US post office kept the balance of 6 cents, adhesives with negligible imperfections, othewise fine

1861, ARAGO: 1857 Washington 3c. red and Franklin 30c. orange tied by red grid to folded letter from "NEW YORK FEB 3" endorsed "pr. Steamer Arago via Marseille" to Melbourne, Australia, the adhesives only paid the route via Southampton, so the cover was put on the "PERSIA", from there on the "PERA" to Alexandria, "SIMLA" to Galle and "BENARES" to Melbourne with arrival mark "MELBOURNE AP 15 61", fine and very attractive

1867, ARAGO: 1861 Lincoln 15c. black and Franklin 30c. orange tied by cork cancel to overpaid folded letter from New York to Aachen, Prussia with red integral cds. "N. YORK Am. PKT. AUG 4 7 PAID" crediting Prussia, stamps some faults, otherwise fine entire from the penultimate voyage before closing of the line

1867, GUIDING STAR: Lincoln 15c. black tied by grid to small envelope with adjacent cds. "GUILDFORD MAY 24" to Paris, attractive entire conveyed during the 2nd of only three voyages of this joint venture with New York Mail S.S. Co.
