1864 (25 Aug.), Victoria 6d. gray-black and 2d. violet tied by illegible grid cancel, reverse shows cds. "SANDHURST 26 AU", to envelope to Maine,  via Southampton and London with transit mark "LONDON OC 20" and red "16 cents" credit handstamp, from Londonderry with the "Hibernian" to Quebec, when the cover was bagged to Portland, with corresponding "PORTLAND M AM PKt 5 NOV 18 1864" alongside, by rail. MAR.23" via "NEW YORK 9 MAR 24", carried by the "Germania" to Southampton, with straight line "INSUFFICIENTLY PAID" by French Convention Mail via Great Britain with handstamp "F.30" to Switzerland with arrival mark, part payment not accepted and treated as unpaid, reverse with long cuts, otherwise fine

1854 (Oct 24), Embossed 1sh. green and 1850 Victoria 1p. red tied by numeral "47" to folded lettersheet endorsed "by the St. Louis via Southampton", paying the ½ounce rate and 1p. late fee, to New York with adjacent red handstamp "21 CENTS" and "PAID", 1sh. unobstrusive vertical folding crease, otherwise fine

1855 (6 April), folded letter dated "Off Culpee 6th April", sent via Calcutta with large boxed "INDIA" and put on the steamer "BENTINCK" who travelled via Galle and Aden to Suez. From there overland to Alexandria where the "Indus" departed to Southampton, charged with "1/-" , later with the "St. Louis" to New York where the cover was charged with "45" with black handstamp and later red crayon, an interesting and fine cover with complete transcript of content

1858, Franklin 1c. blue, Washington 3c. rose and vertical pair 10c. green tied by cds. "SYRACRUSE DEC 10 1858" to envelope with red handstamp "3" struck in New York to Cardiff, carried by the "Arago" to Southampton, 1c. with tear, some toning, otherwise fine and attractive

1858, Washington 10c. black, block of four and horizontal pair tied by cds. "Oconomowoc Wis. Dec 6" to large-size cover to Worcester, with "NEW YORK AM. PACKET DEC 11" cds. and matching framed "Short Paid" with blue crayon "96" due rating, carried by "Arago" from New York to Southampton with "4/-" quadruple packet rating, one stamp in block creased, left stamp of pair faulty, otherwise fine and an extremely rare use of 1857 Issue 12c. as block of four, Ashbrook certificate (1954)

The 72c paid in adhesives was the attempt to prepay triple the 24c rate, but the U.S.-British treaty required four-times for letters weighing over 1½ ounces. It is therefore rated "short paid" and due 96c without any credit for prepayment.

"SAN FRANCISCO JUL 12" to folded lettersheet to Bordeaux, in New York handles as overweight, and thus red boxed "SHORT PAID" next to "NEW YORK 18 AUG 3" applied, carried with the "Glasgow" to Queenstown, and from Calais to Bordeaux where the cover was charged "16" decimes, some eraser erosion in address panel, otherwise fine

1864, Washington 24c. grey-lilac tied by grid cancel to envelope with adjacent cds. "WARREN MAR 30 1864" to Stradbally, Ireland. The cover was overweight, and the adhesive was not accepted as part-payment, subsequently "NEW YORK AM Pkt. 42 APR 42" due handstamp struck and carried on the "City of Washington" to Queenstown with transit mark of Piltown, few folds and adhesive small corner crease, otherwise fine and unusual entire

1869 (9 Nov), Adriatic 12c. green with cork cancel on envelope with adjacent cds. "NEW ORLEANS NOV 9" via New York, from there with the "City of Brooklyn" to Liverpool with arrival mark, fine and attractive entire

1872 (4 July), Victoria 9p. dark-brown together with 1858 Victoria 1d. red tied by numeral "88" and cds. "LONDON JY 4 72" to folded letter endorsed "p City of Montreal" to New York with receiver mark, a fine entire with 1d. late fee

1875 (10 Nov), Bank Note Issue 3c. green, 10c. brown and 15c. orange tied by cork cancel with adjacent cds. "MADISON NOV 10" to reduced cover to Moradabd, India. Adhesives slightly overpaying the ½oz rate to India per British mail via Brindisi. Conveyed from Boston with "City of Richmond" to Queenstown, from Brindisi with the steamer "Baroda" to Alexandria and to it's final destination, adhesives some imperfections, still attractive

1850 (20 June), pre statehood folded letter from San Francisco with integral cds.  "SAN FRANCISCO 40 1 JULY" to Bremen, endorsed "per California", sent via Panama to New York where another 24c. were added for the sea passage to Bremen thus manuscript "64" applied, and carried on the "Hermann" to Bremen, fine and interesting entire

"SAN FRANCISCO AUG 5 1857" to folded lettersheet endorsed "Via New York and Havre", carried on Vanderbilts "North Star" to Southampton with London and Calais transit marks, to "Tägerwilen near Constanz", Switzerland, attractive entire

1848, Victoria 2p. blue, horizontal strip of four, touched at bottom right and left, tied by oval grid cancel "12" to folded letter with adjacent "SHIP-LETTER LONDON DE 8 1848" and endorsement "per Private Ship" to Philadelphia with blue "6" cent due octogonal handstamp, minor aging otherwise fine and attractive retaliatory period cover, the ship letter is much scarcer than the usual 1s. packet letter rate

1848, folded letter from "PORT GIBSON AUG 23" with matching "PAID" and "10" handstamp and manuscript "34" alongside, via Liverpool and London to Mount Pleasant near Maidstone with arrival and "1/-" retaliatory due rating, on front with red manuscript "Refused", some aging and edge wear, fine and scarce refused use from Mississippi

1848, small envelope from London with red "SHIP-LETTER LONDON NO 23 1848" and endorsement "by Private Ship" to Middleton, Connecticut with manuscript "8" (pence) and integral "NEW YORK SHIP JAN 28 7cts." alongside, a fine and interesting entire that avoided the retaliation measures by being carried on a private ship, saving the sender 4 cents and the recipient 29 cents
