1788, folded entire with full content dated “St Martin May 28 1788”, addressed to “Mr Thomas White, Berwick", forwarded by British merchant vessel “Edwards”, handed over to the Lancaster post office where it received a fine strike of the black straight-line ”LANCASTER", forwarded to Berwick and charged “6” on delivery. Some transportation trace and normal aging, a fascinating and very early document from the Waite correspondence

Note: interesting content where the sender writes to his brother, mentioning “this letter is by the ship Edwards, Capt. Damien who sails for Lancaster some time tomorrow. There will be another conveyance in a short time, a brig belonging to capt. James Jacksen will depart from this Island in ten or twelve days by which vessel I should write…”

1855, 4s blue, vertical strip of four on part folded letter to Hamburg, mostly large margins all around, touching at top right, each stamp centrally-struck with 10-bar obliterator, postmarked with blue Drammen c.d.s. (Nov 2), vertical file fold through one stamp, overall signs of aging, a scarce franking; with 1982 Moldenhauer certificate. (Facit 1)

1855, 4s. blue, four large margins, tied to 1856 registered folded cover to Kongsberg by Drammen c.d.s. (Apr 1), endorsed "Recommandirt" in manuscript at lower left, file fold just clear of adhesive, an otherwise fine cover and desirable usage tied by a town cancel; with 1997 Enger certificate. (Facit 1).

1855, 4s blue, four large margins all around, showing the "double foot" variety, visible on Lion's right hand leg, tied to folded cover by circular bar cancel, blue Skien c.d.s. at upper right (Jul. 16), to Christiania, a lovely example of this rare and desirable variety; with 1971 Mohrmann certificate. 1855, 4s blue, four large balanced margins, showing the cracked plate at upper right, neatly-struck partial 1856 c.d.s. of Bergen well-clear, bright fresh colour, a superior example of this distinctive variety, pencil signed Moldenhauer on reverse, with his 1980 certificate, very fine. (Facit 1v6)

1857 2s yellow and 1863 2s yellow, tied to 1864 folded cover to Bilbao, Spain by Christiansund c.d.s., boxed red "PP" and red "4R" due marking struck on front, Sandosund and indistinct c.d.s. transit/arrival backstamps, tear at upper left and portion of reverse with postmarks torn and crudely repaired with hinges, yet a scarce mixed franking and destination; signed Bolaffi.
